While I highly-praised Baldur's Gate 3 on the Home Page, it's important to note that the game isn't entirely beginner-friendly. It does not hold your hand, as they say. The developers assumed that most players would have experience with the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game and familiarity with 5th edition. Despite my years of playing D&D, I still found myself navigating unfamiliar rules and terminology in BG3.

Unfortunately, the in-game tooltips are meager at best. While I understand the developers' desire to avoid cluttering the screen, this left me frequently searching online to decipher various icons and jargon. It was precisely this legwork that inspired me to create Baldur's Guide—a tips and tricks blogsite that I wish I had access to when I first started playing. My goal is to make it a one-stop resource, so you don’t have to scour multiple sites to make the most of your playthrough.

With BG3 destined to become a legacy game, I believe it’s better late than never to share these insights. I hope gamers will find this Guide useful for years to come. And given the game’s popularity and accolades, it’s likely that Larian Studios will produce additional content in the near future.

The Article pages feature posts organized by publication date, which somewhat coincide with the game’s chronological order, though not always. For a more targeted search, visit the Archive page, where you can easily find articles categorized by specific topics (such as the Acts in which they occur).

Spelling

You'll notice that a lot of text in the game defers to the British usage spellings, such as colour or armour. This was likely done because Larian Studios is located in Belgium, which traditionally uses British spellings since they're practically neighbours(֊ ). It was also probably to reinforce the fantasy atmosphere since American spelling didn't exist in the medieval ages. However, since I'm American, I'll be using standard American spellings for all text on the site. But it shouldn't affect your ability to understand the articles.

Platform

Also, I play BG3 on an Xbox Series X. Therefore, I will likely include articles that help with understanding how to manage the game on a console. Most PC users also use a game controller instead of a keyboard. However, if you're a mouse and keyboard user, feel free to get in touch with me from the About page and let me know what the keyboard keys are for any article in which I refer to console buttons and didn't include the PC equivalents. I'd be happy to add it to the article as a parenthetical.

Tone

One thing you may notice on this site is the relaxed, colloquial tone of the articles. This was done on purpose to avoid sounding like other stuffy, purely analytical tutorial sites. I wanted to make sure I spoke to all of you in a friendly, conversational manner so you'd feel like we're in the same room discussing the nuaces of the game together.

Spoilers

Lastly, I think it goes without saying that if you read an article about certain aspects of the game, they will likely include spoilers. As the site evolves, I may try and back-track to add spoiler warnings or redaction tags. But just know that reading about gaming tips on the internet comes with its own inherent risk of spoilers. If this bothers you, then my best advice is to stick with the Articles in the General Tips category until after your first full playthrough. BG3 is such a good game that most will want to return for a second playthrough with a different character, different difficulty level, and different strategies.
